Illegal equipment with smuggled goods was intercepted tonight by the employees of the internal and private security of the Mukachevo border detachment of the Western Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service, in collaboration with the border patrol unit of the "Tyachiv" department and police officers.

In the course of operational information implementation received from the employees of the internal and private security of the Mukachevo border detachment, law enforcement officers stopped a "Mercedes Vito" fully packed with tobacco products without excise stamps just 50 meters from the border.

To stop the 40-year-old driver of the minibus and his 38-year-old passenger, border guards had to fire several warning shots. The driver of the vehicle is a resident of Bedevlia village, and his accomplice resides in Solotvyno town.

From the car of the Transcarpathians, 42 boxes containing almost 21 thousand packs of cigarettes were confiscated. They had planned to illegally transport them to Romania.

If the guilt of the men is proven in court, they may face a fine ranging from five thousand to ten thousand untaxed minimum incomes of citizens.

The vehicle and the cigarettes were confiscated according to the established procedure. The preliminary assessment value of the smuggled tobacco reaches 623,000 UAH.
